We authors are generally shy folks, more comfortable alone in our offices banging on keyboards than tooting our horns in public. However, we understand that to connect better with our readers we need to communicate some information about ourselves. So here’s the lowdown on me. I’m from Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, but now call Boulder, Colorado home. I’m a Latin Americanist with a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Luso-Brazilian Studies. I’ve also lived and worked in Brazil (as a Fulbright fellow), Mexico, Portugal (as a Gulbenkian fellow), Spain, England, Wales, and Scotland, and speak 5 languages. So I guess you could say that I’ve been around the block a few times! For a while I was a professor at Brown and Pittsburgh universities, but now, keep pretty busy writing books. My official job is as a master intercultural trainer and assessor delivering training programs to business people and their families relocating around the world. There’s never a dull moment at work. On the esoteric side, I own and manage Dunraven House www.dunravenhouse.com, my mail order business, where I prepare and sell my aromatherapy formulas, including the incenses, perfumes, bath salts, and massage oils mentioned in my books. From the picture on this page with its mountain backdrop, you can probably deduce that I live steps away from the Front Range of the Colorado Rockies. Just like my sleuth Carolina, I like to run and hike in the foothills. I also enjoy gardening and remodeling my historic home. If truth be told, I’m also the guardian of a very spoiled cat, two or three neighbor cats, a couple of neighborhood dogs, and a menagerie of squirrels, crows, other birds, foxes, deer, raccoons, and even an occasional skunk that manages to roam around the property. To date, I’ve written 13 books and edited one, and have two more ready to go. Two of my books have won national awards (Book Expo America and International New Age Trade Show).
